What kind of rides do F1 and F2 do?

Our main rides are the Sunday Club Ride, the perfect opportunity to get out and stretch those legs. Rolling out from Kingston Market Place, we head into the heart of Surrey or toward the flats of Windsor. Every Sunday route features the all important stop for coffee and cake, followed by a swift half at a local pub to chat through segments, gears, and everything in between.

Below is some guidance on what to expect, but please note that in Summer both groups may occasionally push a little further to take full advantage of those sunny days.

Other rides

Thursday evening

In Summer this is usually a shorter, flatter and slightly faster ride. We meet at 6:30pm in Kingston Market Place.

During Winter, as we are lucky enough to be right on the doorstep of the beautiful Richmond Park, we ride group laps of the Park (either two or three) before retreating to the warmth of a local pub.  The winter rides meet at either 6:30pm or 7pm, depending on the deer cull, just inside the Kingston Gate entrance to the park.

Saturday

Coined the Saturday Flaturday, this is as it sounds! Meeting at 9am in Kingston Market Place, this ride usually heads out for a flat ride towards Windsor with a coffee stop at the halfway point. This is a great opportunity to stretch the legs at the start of the weekend.

Ad-hoc rides

Our members regular arrange ad hoc rides during the week using our Slack workspace, so if you’ve got a bit of spare time there’s bound to be someone to ride with!

How to join

If you’re interested giving Forge London CC a try, fill in our handy form and our New Joiner Liaison will be in touch to arrange an Intro Ride. We run these on a regular basis so we’ll get you booked in as soon as we can.

On the Intro Ride you’ll be looked after by a Ride Captain who’ll explain how we ride and make sure you’re having a good time!

Minimum Standard Fitness

You may have never ridden in a group before, that’s ok, but we do expect a level of fitness is reached before joining the club. A great way to judge this is to time yourself for two laps clockwise around Richmond Park. You should be able to do two laps in less than an hour (the distance is just over 7miles / 11km per lap). A second requirement would be that you can ride for 35miles / 60km or more.

Riding in groups is really efficient and you will soon be able to ride further and faster.

Minimum Standard Bike & Equipment

For any road ride we expect you to have a safe and legal road bike with clipless pedals and shoes or toe clips and straps and drop handlebars. Fixed wheel and triathlon or TT bikes, and clip-on TT bars are not permitted (for safety reasons) on group rides. Wearing a helmet is mandatory. We are also not able to accommodate e-bikes at this time.
