Simon Norman (Father of the House)

F1 Ride Leader

Ride Group: F1

What kind of rider are you?

I am now primarily a social rider. I come from a running background where I was a fairly successful veteran track runner. Sadly too many knee operations put paid to the running, but I am still able to ride with the minimum of discomfort.

How often do you ride?

I try to get out on the bike at least twice a week on the Forge Thursday and Sunday rides.

Why do you ride?

I now ride primarily for my fitness and to keep my weight in order. I do enjoy the role of Ride Captain on the New Joiners rides where I can ride in a group with mixed abilities assessing their skill levels and where necessary passing on the odd cycling tip.

Do you have any cycling targets this year?

I don’t have any targets per say. My objectives over the year are to maintain my fitness and ride well in the Ride London 100.

When you’re not cycling, what do you get up to?

Now that I’m fully retired you can find me on the golf course 3 days a week. If I’m not there I’m likely to be on a boat in the English channel fishing or out on the bike.
