Peter Sagan has won 17 Grand Tour stages, seven Tour de France Green Jerseys, three World Championships and a total of 119 pro wins, including Gent Wevelgem three times.
And now to add to that impressive palmares, he can boast he stayed in the same hotel as Forge London CC, pre the 2022 Gent Wevelgem Classic.
Dispensing with his world press interview duties in the foyer, little did the Team TotalEnergies star know the highlight of his career was just a few steps away, as mildly interested Forge mega-fan Sue E stepped into his orbit.
“My two inspirations are Bono for music and you for cycling” said Sue as Sagan, clearly emotional and near speechless, could only reply with, “cool”.
“Good luck in the race tomorrow”, said the generous Sue E.
“And you’ll probably want a picture,” she graciously ceded, as fellow pro Daniel Oss looked on in awe (which can often be mistaken for bafflement).
Other Forge riders report Sagan was heard to say; “This is the best day of my life.” (Or maybe it was “thank you,” he did mumble a bit).
Either way a real treat for the lad.
It’s a long way from Zilina, Slovakia to mixing with Forge, Peter. However, you are a proper megastar.
